Some of the useful Tips for Greenhouse

Root crops such as beets, carrots and turnips thrive and get established well in soil put in deep boxes. You can put such deep boxes with the root crops under the benches to provide a conducive environment. Vegetable crops such as peas, pole beans, tomatoes, white lettuce, cucumbers and other low leafy vegetables require tub-type containers and may be planted in the tub with the taller vegetables.

Besides growing plants in containers, you can also grow plants directly on the floor of your greenhouse. You can choose to plant corn directly on a special bed of soil formed directly over the floor of your greenhouse. You can also have intercrops between these rows of corn and planting pumpkin is the best choice.

When ever you water your indoor plants, always ensure that the temperature of water that you use is on par with the room temperature to avoid any ?heat of wetting? injury. You also need to ensure that the water used by you is devoid of any chlorine in it to avoid leaves getting brown at its tips. In case the tap water is suspected to have chlorine, then let the tap water stand for a day to get rid of the chlorine substance.

Sprinkling of crushed eggshells in the soil can stimulate growth. To make your greenhouse soil acidic in nature so as to meet the requirements of certain plants, you can try sprinkling coffee grounds in the soil.

After the harvest of fruits and vegetables from your greenhouse, ensure that they are thoroughly washed and cleaned from any insects that may get lodged in the crevices. Ensure that you are taking only fresh and insect free fruits and vegetables to your kitchen.

You can effectively use the limited space in your greenhouse for planting and rearing more number of plants than possible. To make more room in your greenhouse, use lower benches for starting seeds and transplants; upper benches for growing flowers and specimen plants. You can plant vegetables like tomatoes in a warm area of your greenhouse.

After planting the seeds, water them lightly and only occasionally. Over watering may cause the seeds to float and rise to the surface and instead or rooting the seeds will rot and result in loss of entire crop.

A better greenhouse practice is separating the production area from that of preparation area. Do not do any preparation work on your ground meant for growing and try to make your greenhouse a tidier one.
