Tools and materials needed for GreenhouseRemember
that greenhouses are limited to growing only certain species or varieties
of plants in them. The type of greenhouse that has to be built depends
on the variety of plants such as fruit plants, vegetables etc., that
you have decided to raise in them. Hence, ?knowing your crop? before
hand is an important pre-requisite in any greenhouse installation. There are certain black plastic flats that nurseries use to display their plant containers. And you can make use of them for sowing seeds and transplanting tender saplings. The trays and pots that hold plants and sprouting seeds are need to be placed on benches only inside the greenhouse. You can chose long benches or shorter ones depending upon your requirement and space constraints. Nowadays, markets are aplenty with styrofoam cups, which can come very handy for sowing the seeds. Seeds sprout quickly and the grown up plant can easily be removed from such styrofoam cups for transplanting into other pots or containers. You also might have seen yogurt packed in nice beautiful cups. These cups can also be put to use for planting the saplings. You can make use few larger sized cups for planting more than one seedling also. In fact, any container you can think of will be suitable for sowing and raising the plants inside a greenhouse. Besides the pots or containers, you should also have certain other materials such as broken clay pots, cracked walnuts, marbles, charcoal or gravel. These materials help in proper drainage and drain the excess water from the pots or containers. Ensure to dip the clay pots in water before using so as to ensure that the clay is not absorbing the moisture from the potting soil and make available the entire soil moisture to the plants. If you are interested in having trellises in your greenhouse, you can make them using coat hangers. Any coat hanger can be bent to the desired shape and can be used as trellises. When it comes to controlling the pests, usage of herbal pesticides is the best choice. They are effective pesticides gifted by mother nature and do not harm our fragile ecology. You can use any such variety of herbal insecticide or pesticide and even you can make your own brand by mixing the extracted juice of onion or garlic with water. Neem extract also proves to be an effective insecticide and you can make them by soaking few flakes of neem cakes in water for a week or so and use the mixture for spraying or sprinkling. In summer, the temperature inside the greenhouse may exceed the normal limits and you may need to use air coolers or air circulators for containing the temperature within the permissible level. Alternately, you can use power vents installed at the roof level for releasing the accumulated hot air into the open space outside and in the process certain cool air is drawn inside that help in maintaining the temperature. In winter,
when the temperature drops below a certain level, you need to use heater
to restore the much-needed warmth inside the greenhouse. Humidity also
plays a vital role in greenhouses and you should have a good humidifier
besides having a good carbon dioxide (CO2) generator and a mister. | Reasons for purchasing a Greenhouse | Resources for enthusiasts of Greenhouse Websites | Some of the useful Tips for Greenhouse | Space requirements for certain crops | Tools and materials needed for Greenhouse | Types of Erection for Greenhouses | Types of Greenhouse Available | Types of Greenhouse based on Structure | Understanding Greenhouse | Watering System for your Greenhouse |
